A Subtlety.

When I first walked in I asked my mom, "what is this stinky place?" It smelled sweet but  pretty weird.  I was at the Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  I went to see Kara Walker's "A Subtlety". It was AMAZING.  There were these little boys holding baskets made of sugar and molasses.  Some of them didn't even survive the heat and began melting, falling, and breaking.  The walls were still dripping molasses from 10 years ago! As you walk to the back of the Factory there was a HUGE Sphinx with resemblance to a 'Mammy'.  She had very strong womanly features and she was made up of about 40 tons of sugar!

The message behind the whole thing is fascinating.  Sugar plantations, slave labor, race, sugar consumption, and just the REAL history of Sugar.

A Subtlety was displayed from May 10th- July 6th

Hope.

This Mural is called 'Hope' by ICY and SOT. They're stencil artists from Iran who are now based in BROOKLYN.
So colorful and nice to look at. I love everything about it especially the color rain dripping down the wall.

Location: South 6 by the Williamsburg Bridge

Hello there.

I'm Gavin and I'm 5 years old. I am starting big boy school in September as a kindergartener. I also play baseball little league. I love Michael Jackson, dancing, Ninja Turtles and Sonic. My mom and dad introduced me to the world of art when I was itty bitty. From museums to street art I was in it all! Now I want to share my journey with the whole world!
